"Re-styling the Future" Campaign to Reduce Textile Waste in Indonesia

Updated: Mar 27, 2023

An average of 90 tons of textiles worldwide are wasted, annually. In respond to this issue, we are collaborating with Setali Indonesia and launching the 'Re-styling The Future' campaign to support the reduction of textile waste.

The aim of our collaboration with Setali Indonesia is to extend the life of clothing through something new and useful. Here we are also trying to increase public awareness by socializing the textile waste issue which now become the second largest contributor to environmental pollution in the world after oil." said our Director.

Setali Indonesia is a non-profit community that was founded in 2018 that focus on extending the life of clothing through upcycling and turning used clothes into more valuable products. The increasing volume of textile waste every year encourages Setali Indonesia to make meaningful efforts to help reduce and reduce textile waste.

"On top of being active in recycling, we are also active in socializing and educating the wider community about the importance of textile waste treatment, decluttering, ethical fashion, to how to choose more sustainable fabric materials," said Andien Aisyah, as Co-Founder & Advisor of Setali Indonesia.

In this Re-styling The Future campaign, we were also collaborated with MODENA to place a drop box for the public to donate used clothes that are no longer used to be extended their life by Setali Indonesia. Starting from November, drop boxes will be distributed throughout MODENA Experience Center, in Kemang, Suryo and Satrio, as well as in several MODENA Home Centers such as in Pantai Indah Kapuk and Kelapa Gading to reach more donors.

To be able to make a donation, here are the steps that must be considered:

  1. 1. Sort out the clothes you want to donate

  2. 2. Donations can be in the form of clothes or accessories made from fabrics that are suitable for use or not suitable for use even if

  3. 3. If you donate clothes that are not suitable for use, cut the clothes into several pieces

  4. 4. Clothing donations can be distributed to drop boxes provided in the showrooms and outlets of MODENA below:

    • MODENA Experience Center Suryo

    • MODENA Experience Center Satrio

    • MODENA Experience Center Kemang

    • MODENA Home Center Pantai Indah Kapuk

    • MODENA Home Center Kelapa Gading

"Not only here, the donated clothes will then be processed by Setali Indonesia by empowering itinerant tailors who during this pandemic have less orders and are experiencing difficulties so that they will also feel the positive impact of this activity. After upcycle, the results will be in the form of new items that have more value such as bags, masks, pencil cases, blankets, and others which we will then distribute also to foundations or homes to be able to feel the benefits by the community, especially to those in need."

"We are very pleased to collaborate on this textile waste mitigation effort. We hope that with this campaign, the community can be more aware of this environmental pollution problem and can participate in making the slightest effort to reduce clothing waste," said Andien.

"We're not going to stop doing these efforts. As long as global warming and environmental pollution continue, we are determined to continue to fight it in the days to come. We hope that the people of the country can be inspired to love our earth more and make changes for our future," continued our Director.
